Join us for a special screening of the 2016 film Hidden Figures, which tells the story of three African American female mathematicians working for NASA during the Space Race. Hidden Figures was nominated for numerous awards in 2016, including the Academy Award for best picture. This film is rated PG.

The promise of riches and a new life during a time of turmoil drives one young woman to join a worldwide stampede in the last grand adventure of the 19th century in this historic performance piece by Living Voices. Included with Museum admission or membership, RSVP encouraged.

History Café: Untold Stories from the Chinese Exclusion Act Files For 61 years, the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act barred Chinese laborers from entering the United States and prevented those who did from becoming naturalized citizens. Applicants were questioned in detail at US ports of entry about their families and villages in China. Hear from National Archives’ volunteer Trish Hackett Nicola about the valuable information found in these files, and from Cathy Lee about how the files helped her uncover her great aunt’s story.

  Coal Mining at Cougar Mountain - Eastside Heritage Center
This program focuses on 100 years of local coal mining. In 1888, there were 20 mules and 200 men employed here! Exporting coal to San Francisco turned Seattle into a dominant seaport. Learn what is underneath a mountain that is older than Rainier. Presented in partnership by the Eastside Heritage Center and Bellevue Parks & Community Services.
