March AKCHO Membership Meeting

Tuesday, 3/30, 9:30 - 11:30 AM
Meeting Location: Heritage Hall, a King County Landmark
Address: 203 Market Street, Kirkland
Phone: 425-827-3446
Website: www.kirklandheritage.org

Host: Kirkland Heritage Society

Program: Saving Heritage Hall and Planning for Growth
The Kirkland Heritage Society was instrumental in saving the former First Church of Christ Scientist, Kirkland, from demolition in 1999, and in moving it to its present location in Heritage Park. KHS contributed hundreds of volunteer hours and significant funding for the renovation of the upper floor and exterior, and, to accommodate the lower floor for the home for the Heritage Society. The program will share this story and its impact on the Society and the City of Kirkland. Since moving into the building in 2004, the Society has had significant growth in collections and has made a major effort to place all collections in the PastPerfect database.

The City of Kirkland recently annexed three neighborhoods north of Kirkland containing 33,000 residents. Efforts are underway to accommodate this growth and involve those residents in KHS, and those challenges also will be described in this program. A tour of the offices of KHS will be available to those wishing to see them.

For more information on rental of Kirkland’s Heritage Hall meeting room, please contact Nicci Osborn, Kirkland Parks at 425 587-3342. For additional program information you may contact either Vic Newhard or Bob Burke at Kirkland Heritage Society, 425 827-3446.
