Landmark challenge grants

4Culture’s Landmark Challenge Grants support “bricks and mortar” projects involving buildings, structures, sites, objects, and districts that have been officially designated as landmarks in any and every community in King County, WA, including the city of Seattle and Bothell. This program requires a one-to-one cash match, with a minimum request of $10,000. 4Culture supports this program with interest earned on the investment of Lodging Tax funds.  For more information, click here.



Interlocal cities historic preservation funding

As King County grows and changes, the communities that take intentional steps to protect their significant local buildings, sites, and neighborhoods will remain truly distinctive. 4Culture’s Interlocal Cities funding will help make local historic preservation programs more effective. Eligible activities include identification of historic sites through survey/inventory, nomination of significant properties as city landmarks, and outreach that raises public awareness about the benefits of preservation for all. 4Culture’s Arts, Heritage, and Preservation programs seek collaborative proposals from King County’s creative community for implementation of innovative projects at historic sites. Historic Site(s) Specific invites King County-based artists, organizations, and creative individuals to consider one or more participating sites included in the Historic Sites roster, and to contact the site stewards to explore ideas for site-specific work that responds to the unique context, history and/or architecture of the sites. Heritage Advisor is published 10 times a year by the Association of King County Historical Organizations as a service to members and those who support its mission. AKCHO was established in 1977 to: encourage cooperation among historical organizations; promote and encourage the study and preservation of the history and heritage of King County through member organizations, individual members, and the community they serve; and support such preservation efforts through public awareness and understanding of legislative issues.

The Heritage Advisor welcomes submissions of news items, calendar items, and opinion columns from AKCHO members, HA subscribers, and readers. Articles are limited to 300 words and they should have a strong relevance to historic preservation and heritage issues in King County, Washington. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. AKCHO does not pay for published submissions. All articles are subject to review by AKCHO staff. Please send your article within the body of an email (no attachments, please) to heritageadvisor@akcho.org.

AKCHO welcomes new members year round. Individual memberships are $15. Organization memberships are $35.
