Spellman Awards
At the Spellman Awards program – AKCHO secretary Heather Trescases, Redmond Historical Society office manager Monica Park, AKCHO president John Chaney, Redmond Historical Society treasurer Joe Townsend, and the King County Historic Preservation Program’s Julie Koler.
A lively crowd was undaunted by challenging traffic in order to attend the 2012 John D. Spellman Awards, held May 24 at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center and sponsored by King County’s Historic Preservation Program. Read the rest of this article »

Wangle a mangle
Points Northeast Historical Society in Pierce County has two 1950s-era Ironrite mangles, items that were dropped off on their doorstep when they were not looking. “Although we were very thankful for the donors’ thoughtfulness, our lighthouse museums cover the early 1900s up to the end of the ’30s, so we are unable to use them,” says Mavis Stears, a member of Points Northeast. Winters House wows local fashionistas
 Eastside Heritage Center teamed-up with photographer Staci Bernstein of Hero Labs and fashion designer Christine Hynden last month to showcase Bellevue’s historic Winters House in a fashion shoot. Built in 1929, the Winters House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features a distinctive Spanish Eclectic architectural styling. Read the rest of this article »

Heritage Advisor is published 10 times a year by the Association of King County Historical Organizations as a service to members and those who support its mission. AKCHO was established in 1977 to: encourage cooperation among historical organizations; promote and encourage the study and preservation of the history and heritage of King County through member organizations, individual members, and the community they serve; and support such preservation efforts through public awareness and understanding of legislative issues.
The Heritage Advisor welcomes submissions of news items, calendar items, and opinion columns from AKCHO members, HA subscribers, and readers. Articles are limited to 300 words and they should have a strong relevance to historic preservation and heritage issues in King County, Washington. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. AKCHO does not pay for published submissions. All articles are subject to review by AKCHO staff. Please send your article within the body of an email (no attachments, please) to heritageadvisor@akcho.org.
AKCHO welcomes new members year round. Individual memberships are $15. Organization memberships are $35.
