Cantwell joins Senate cultural caucus

Senator Maria Cantwell has joined the Senate Cultural Caucus after being urged to do so by a contingent of local heritage organizations.  In late August, Cantwell staffers met in Seattle with Alma Plancich, executive director of the Ethnic Heritage Council; Jill Linzee, Executive director of Northwest Heritage Resources; Rob Townsend, executive director of Northwest Folklife, and Joan Rabinowitz, executive director of Jack Straw Productions. Harborview Hall options reconsidered

King County recently solicited qualifications and concepts for the adaptive reuse of Harborview Hall, a 1931 art deco tower located on the campus of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The county received four submittals from reputable developers. The proposals take a fresh look at the feasibility of renovating Harborview Hall in a manner that supports the mission of Harborview, ensures the seismic stability of the facility, and preserves a building that has historic significance. Seattle Public Library marks 50th anniversary of World’s Fair

Resale shop features Japanese art, antiques

Seattle Times to vacate historic headquarters

The Seattle Times Co. is moving out of its historic headquarters in early 2012 and will be offering the 2.5 acre block it occupies as a ground lease investment opportunity to prospective developers. As reported recently by The Seattle Times, the property, at Fairview Avenue N and John Street in the South Lake Union neighborhood, has been listed by the broker Century Pacific. Heritage Advisor is published 10 times a year by the Association of King County Historical Organizations as a service to members and those who support its mission. AKCHO was established in 1977 to: encourage cooperation among historical organizations; promote and encourage the study and preservation of the history and heritage of King County through member organizations, individual members, and the community they serve; and support such preservation efforts through public awareness and understanding of legislative issues.

The Heritage Advisor welcomes submissions of news items, calendar items, and opinion columns from AKCHO members, HA subscribers, and readers. Articles are limited to 300 words and they should have a strong relevance to historic preservation and heritage issues in King County, Washington. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. AKCHO does not pay for published submissions. All articles are subject to review by AKCHO staff. Please send your article within the body of an email (no attachments, please) to heritageadvisor@akcho.org.

AKCHO welcomes new members year round. Individual memberships are $15. Organization memberships are $35.
