AKCHO has special offer for members

Archives Month to focus on fairs and festivals
Planning is underway for Archives Month 2011, which will be celebrated in October. This year’s theme is “Fairs and Festivals,†and events will include an archives fair where institutions can share information about their collections. All museums, historical societies, and other institutions with archival collections are welcome to participate. If you’d like to be involved, please contact Deb Kennedy at deborah.kennedy@kingcounty.gov.
Haida House, Saar Cemetery receive approval
The King County Landmarks Commission unanimously approved the designation of Haida House as a City of Redmond Regional Landmark at its meeting in August. Read the rest of this article »
Horiuchi mural gets facelift
Graffiti was removed and glass tiles were restored this summer on the Paul Horiuchi mural on the Seattle Center grounds. The large and centrally located public artwork was commissioned in 1962 by planners of Seattle’s Century 21 Exposition. Restoration of the mural was supported by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs as plans move forward for the 2012 celebration of the 50th anniversary of the World’s Fair and “The Next Fifty.â€
Issaquah Museums seek public input
The Issaquah History Museums are seeking community input for a new exhibit at the Issaquah Community Center. For the past 18 months, two small exhibit cases at the community center have housed artifacts and images that relate to recreation in Issaquah. It’s time to change the exhibit, and museum staff would like the public to suggest what might go on exhibit next. Read the rest of this article »

Microsoft Alumni Foundation matching grant
Microsoft
Date: 9/16/2011
On behalf of each Microsoft alumnus who participates on September 16 in a Day of Caring project alongside Microsoft employee volunteers, Microsoft will donate $100 to the Microsoft Alumni Foundation (MSAF) to be contributed to Alumni-supported nonprofit organizations doing work in King County–up to a maximum of $50,000 going out to these local organizations. Heritage Advisor is published 10 times a year by the Association of King County Historical Organizations as a service to members and those who support its mission. AKCHO was established in 1977 to: encourage cooperation among historical organizations; promote and encourage the study and preservation of the history and heritage of King County through member organizations, individual members, and the community they serve; and support such preservation efforts through public awareness and understanding of legislative issues.
The Heritage Advisor welcomes submissions of news items, calendar items, and opinion columns from AKCHO members, HA subscribers, and readers. Articles are limited to 300 words and they should have a strong relevance to historic preservation and heritage issues in King County, Washington. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. AKCHO does not pay for published submissions. All articles are subject to review by AKCHO staff. Please send your article within the body of an email (no attachments, please) to heritageadvisor@akcho.org.
AKCHO welcomes new members year round. Individual memberships are $15. Organization memberships are $35.
