The Puget Sound Regional Council late last month approved construction of a new S.R. 520 bridge. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn cast the lone vote of dissent concerning the $4.6 billion project.  The National Historic Preservation Act requires that federal agencies are required to consider the effects of their projects on historic properties and to mitigate those effects, and The Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks have been involved in efforts to protect Washington Park, Montlake Boulevard, and Lake Washington Boulevard from negative impacts.

The Seattle City Council has unanimously approved a comprehensive set of zoning laws that will allow taller residential buildings in parts of the International District, while maintaining lower building heights along the main corridors of Chinatown and Little Saigon and in Pioneer Square.
