Program: Education Curriculum Development
Between 2007 and 2010 Eastside Heritage Center developed two new educational curricula for use in the Bellevue School District. Both “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Change over Time: The Lowering of Lake Washington” were designed to teach middle-school students about local history through the study of primary source documents. Funded through 4Culture, the programs were created at the request of, and in collaboration with, school district staff, and were tailored to meet current educational standards. The first of these programs was an unqualified success, the second is still a “work in progress.” What went into the programs, and what caused the different results? EHC staff will discuss the content and creation of both programs, and share the lessons learned during the process.
For additional program information you may contact Jane Morton, Education Coordinator, for the Eastside Heritage Center at 425-450-1049.
