Online Poll to Gauge Membership Stance

The debate over the distribution of recording fee revenue under HB 1386 has reached a crossroads. Several events occurred in September that have affected the issue. King County Councilmember Larry Phillips introduced legislation that would implement a recommendation by the Council-appointed heritage funding task force. In the years 2011-2015, the ordinance allocates 40 percent of the annual revenue to the county historic preservation program (HPP), and 60 percent to 4Culture for distribution via its grant programs. Once a year, AKCHO’s membership team (led by the peerless, fearless Dick Peacock) sends out a letter reminding you to renew your AKCHO membership (or urging you to join, if you haven’t in the past). The membership letter basically consists of a few paragraphs explaining what AKCHO does and why your support is important, followed by a simple form to fill out and return with your check. And every year, like clockwork, almost all of you skim the letter, fill out the form, and send in the check. For this we are eternally grateful! Read the rest of this article »

Northwest Railroad Museum executive director Richard Anderson

The annual AKCHO Picnic was held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 under cloudy skies in Snoqualmie — but no rain fell on our AKCHO picnic train.  The 40 picnic participants were convivial and most impressed with the accomplishments of the Northwest Railway Museum.  The tour was led by Executive Director Richard Anderson, whose 15 years of leadership has moved this museum into national recognition and significant accomplishments.
