Honoring Your Work – AKCHO Annual Awards Program
AKCHO celebrated individuals and historical organizations throughout King County at its 27th Annual Awards Presentation that was held on, coincidentally, April 27. The festive affair took place at the Museum of History & Industry, with sponsorship also from 4Culture. WSJHS Exhibit Stars at the Paramount This Month
In honor of Jewish Heritage Month, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society proudly presents a special exhibit at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle. Titled “Our Village Seattle: Family of Strangers,” this series of storyboards highlights the lives of pioneering Jewish people who made homes for themselves in, what was at the time, the remote Pacific Northwest, and also highlights some of the many family businesses that have played a prominent role in the growth of this area. Local Historic Preservation Efforts Lauded by State
On March 29th, the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) announced the 2010 recipients of the annual State Historic Preservation Officer’s Awards, and 4Culture’s Destination Heritage has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation in the Media category. Taking StEPs in the Right Direction
Heritage 4Culture strongly recommends that King County historical organizations take a critical look at StEPs (Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations), and consider using this new self-assessment tool now available from the American Association for State and Local History. Developed over five years with help from more than 130 representatives in the heritage field, StEPs is a program for small and mid-sized historical organization that encourages awareness and achievement of national standards. Heritage Advisor is published 10 times a year by the Association of King County Historical Organizations as a service to members and those who support its mission. AKCHO was established in 1977 to: encourage cooperation among historical organizations; promote and encourage the study and preservation of the history and heritage of King County through member organizations, individual members, and the community they serve; and support such preservation efforts through public awareness and understanding of legislative issues.
The Heritage Advisor welcomes submissions of news items, calendar items, and opinion columns from AKCHO members, HA subscribers, and readers. Articles are limited to 300 words and they should have a strong relevance to historic preservation and heritage issues in King County, Washington. Submission of an article does not guarantee publication. AKCHO does not pay for published submissions. All articles are subject to review by AKCHO staff. Please send your article within the body of an email (no attachments, please) to heritageadvisor@akcho.org.
AKCHO welcomes new members year round. Individual memberships are $15. Organization memberships are $35.
